Responding effectively to the requirements of the Education Inspection Framework (EIF) requires thought, planning and considered implementation. However, prepared (or otherwise) you feel, it’s always worth taking time out to reflect on your position relative to the key areas which will be subject to scrutiny.
The Self Assessment process provides an opportunity for reflection but many providers have developed a way of producing the SAR – a formula if you like, which is often followed with a fair degree of rigidity. Strong and well understood processes are important but it’s essential to ensure that the process of reflection is thorough and all embracing, allowing time for the consideration of some key questions.
There are many such questions (too many to list here) but when providing inspection readiness support to our clients Solvendis will typically ask questions along the following lines:
- How do you ensure that the curriculum content is developing knowledge and skills for learners? Is there planning to ensure that future needs are met? Can you give some examples?
- Do you work with employers and others to select and sequence content? Can you give some examples?
- How effectively has CPD focused on improving teaching and learning?
- How has teaching and learning improved?
- How well is learners’ progress from starting points monitored?
- How effective is the implementation of policies relating to bullying, harassment and abuse in ensuring a safe environment?
- How effectively is attendance managed?
- What arrangements are in place to ensure that learners receive useful CEIAG?
- What information is given to the governing (or advisory) board to enable them to scrutinise (i.e. ‘support and challenge’) the effectiveness of your programmes?
- How will you evidence the indicators of effective governance as identified in the E!F?
